Packing Tips
Pack lightly! And then take even less.
Here are my essentials, which fit easily in a small Rick Steves suitcase and matching backpack:
Mom brings scarves, a couple more outfits than I do, a quick-dry hand towel, a second pair of walking shoes, and sturdy plastic utensils to use for picnics. She also swears by an eye mask for sleeping in hotel rooms that aren’t completely dark, and she wears compression socks on long flights. We both prefer to use little travel pillows instead of most hotels' offerings. These squish down to practically nothing and are easy to pack. Mom loves using “packing cubes” from the Rick Steves online store to create compartments within her suitcase. Remember that you have to pack for the return trip, too, and this time you might have souvenirs! Mom often gets fridge magnets to remind her of particularly special moments or places. These are a great option because they don’t take up much space. |
