Day 14: Tour Over After Breakfast
- The Day Distilled: Goodbyes, long journeys, and planning for next time.
- Woman of the Day: Me! After a long delay in Bergen, I landed in Helsinki with 45 minutes to disembark, go through immigration and customs, and get to my next gate in an incredibly crowded terminal where construction made it difficult to see the signs. I made it!
- Ship’s Log: From the plane I could trace the bays and coastlines of the Baltic and its gulfs, and I marveled to think that Vikings had explored and traded among ports across all these areas (and beyond, even along part of my transatlantic route!) in elegant ships built by hand from the trees of their dark green shores.
Keep on traveling! After a hurried early breakfast, we shared a cab to the airport with some of our new friends. Much of our conversation focused on other tours we wanted to try and places we wanted to see. We wanted to keep on traveling!
At last it was time to say goodbye. Our friends were off to various destinations, Mom was bound for London, and I would fly home via Helsinki. I knew I'd spend the long journey reviewing the tour and dreaming of another Rick Steves adventure! |
