Välkommen!
Hej! Welcome to our scrapbook.Hello! We are a mother and daughter who enjoy traveling — often together, and often on a Rick Steves tour. How did that start? Years ago, Mom became a fan of Rick Steves' show and persuaded me to try one of the tours. I admit that I was skeptical at first. I'm pretty independent! But by Day 2 of that trip, I was sold.
We’ve enjoyed several Rick Steves tours since then. We like them because they have small groups of diverse, independent, active people, seamless logistics, itineraries with lots of free time, good food and cultural experiences, and outstanding guides. |
Why Scandinavia?Mom's reasons for picking this tour: “Vikings! I had heard such good reviews of the trip, and I was curious to see the cultural differences from other countries we'd visited. And Vikings. Mountains and sea. Oh, and Vikings!”
We've learned that May works well for us. It’s a good time of year for me to take time off, it’s cheaper during shoulder season, it's generally not too hot, and we get to celebrate Mother’s Day together. Rick Steves Best of Scandinavia in 14 Days (May 12-25, 2019) met all the criteria… so Scandinavia, here we come! |
How to navigate this scrapbook
You can move around this site by country and day using the drop-down menus at the top, or move day-by-day using the buttons at the bottom. For each day of the trip, I have provided:
Each day’s summary is followed by a longer narrative, with plenty of photos, especially in the slideshows at the bottom of each page.* I’ve also included a "Flotsam & Jetsam" section that offers planning and packing tips, plus an overview of Rick Steves tour basics. |
* To those viewing on a phone, I'm sorry this site isn't mobile-optimized! I'm a newbie. It's on my list of things to learn. Oh, and all but two of the photos were taken by Mom or me. The exceptions are used with permission and properly credited in the captions. Some images like the map above are screen shots from Rick Steves' website. These, I hope, are obvious. Thanks for reading!
